- Make sure you look at what the future costs will be; most of our competitors make you re-purchase their program every year or it will "lock-up". When you buy our program, you own it and it will continue to run indefinitely; you have the option to subscribe to our update service after the first year for $250 a year (for the Trusts & Wills template set; $100 for the Irrevocable Trusts set), but it is not mandatory.
- Will you immediately receive revisions to the templates when there are tax and/or state law changes which affect the documents?
- Does the one program give you state specific documents for all states?
- Is the program creating customized documents for your clients or are these just set forms with "fill-in-the-blanks" for repetitive information? Are the documents truly state specific?
- Does the program have provisions for individuals, married couples and non-traditional couples?
- Does the program have all types of estate tax planning options for married couples, including simple probate avoidance trusts, "disclaimer" trusts, A/B trusts, QTIP trusts and QDOT trusts? Are there tax provisions for those states which have "de-coupled" and have an independent estate tax?
- Does the program have sufficient specific distribution and residual distribution options to meet the needs of all of your future clients?
- Does the program have all of the necessary transfer documents including state specific deeds?
- Does the license permit you to install on more than one computer?
- Can you have a free trial of a fully functional version of the software?
